Every evening at World News Time

I went to the TV with a glass of wine

and two slices of cheese.

He went to the blue chair

 with a glass of wine and two slices of cheese, and waited.

I tuned the TV to the World News channel,

Then I glanced at him and asked “Is the volume right?”

He would point up or down, and I’d adjust the knob.

When it was right, a horizontal wave OK’d the change.

Now he is gone.

And now each evening I tune the TV to World News,

with a glass of wine and two slices of cheese.

Then I glance at the blue chair, but it is empty.

It no longer matters if the volume is just right.
