Letter from Diane Fuller Brown was received. She thinks the tree that was planted and transplanted for Marv may need replacement in the spring and some of the memorial donations may be needed for that tree. The two trees should either be full size or dwarf, whichever is best, and whichever matches. Jim Fuller is continuing to live in the apartment at the August Drive home attached to the garage and other relatives are moving into the home. David Brown may be doing a Peace Corp assignment. Diane and Michael will be going to Australia for the Parliament of the World’s Religions in December. The U of M will be utilizing Kate’s body soon and she expects to have the cremains in the spring and they will be buried next to Marv in the Custer cemetery in August. She has purchased a marker for Kate’s tree and would like to have another brief ceremony at BUUF to place it.
Memorial Garden followup: Harbor Market Garden and Landscape is donating a bench and donated plants for the garden and did the landscaping. Janice has written a thank you card.
Minutes: Dick moved to accept the minutes, Lisa seconded. Approved as corrected. Amy moved to accept the treasurer’s report as presented, Emily H seconded. Motion passed.
Treasurer’s report: Dick submitted a balance sheet and profit and loss statement. We are currently meeting bills and not needing to dip into savings. He will be working with Gretchen to get statements for members and other contributors for income taxes. Janice asked about pledge reminders and he stated that would be included in the letter accompanying the statement so we would be doing it all in one letter. His goal is to get this out by the first week of January.
Jim McConnell spoke about visiting Ray Wilder last week. Charles is working on getting a set of earphones for Ray to assist him with hearing. We will make an announcement to see if we could get a couple people to get him to BUUF for services now and then. We would also like to get some of the kids over there to carol for him after the potluck.
Membership report: Lisa asked about the cost required to cover membership costs (membership output) and Dick reported that it is approximately $70. Anisah continues to send out the birthday cards. Dick has been checking into a movie projector but hasn’t had much opportunity for research but he anticipates doing that soon. (A complete system with player, sound, and speakers) We have some big box speakers in the sound room but we would need to make sure we could hook them up (they are analog). Morning Glory Market has gone out of business. We need to have a new source for fair trade coffee. Walter Dalgleish may be interested in providing childcare.
Safe congregation: Janice asked if the information will be a brochure or will be on the internet. Amy suggested that the information should be in both places. Janice will write up the major points by next meeting and will send them out by email. Emily will also check with her father who is a lawyer and see if they have a “safety congregation” type policy as well.
Cost for keys is $16-18 dollars and it takes some time to get them made. Amy will ask Gary if he asked for the keys back from the former church cleaner. Dick will investigate the cost of replacing the locks and starting over with rekeying. There will be an announcement to see if we can get back as many keys as possible.
RE report: Things are going well. There has essentially been no high school involvement as Michael has been the only regular attending. An Olympic event is one idea that Dave has. Movie nights have been proposed. Emily said she would enjoy taking the teens to Chicago for an outing for “neighborhood” day. Dave will be putting up a tree for the Christmas service and then the ornaments will be put on the tree.
Jim asked if there was interest in a Sunday morning discussion forum. The group encouraged him to go ahead and put it out there and if there is interest to go ahead.
It was decided that rather than put a synopsis of the board meeting in the newsletter that the previous meetings approved minutes would be provided for publishing in their entirety. Immediately after approval the minutes from the month will be posted on the bulletin board.
Emily moved to adjourn, Dick seconded. Meeting adjourned.
