BUUF Board Minutes February 8, 2009

Present: Jim Dalgliesh, Chris Sorotiak, Gary Cook, Tom Hackley, Dick Berndt, Amy Eklund, Beth LeFever

Minutes of January meeting approved as previously corrected : Jim moved, tom seconded

Minister’s report: Beth has found a pulpit, slightly larger, a little ornate, which comes from a UU church, reddish brown wood. She will get it and keep it if the congregation doesn’t like it. Beth has been accepted at Muncie for the internship. The board agreed it was fine if she tries out some different affirmations from time to time to see if any really resonate with the congregation.

50th events: After much discussion, the Pledge Kickoff was settled to be Saturday March 14 as an evening dinner event. Chris and Patty French are willing to play. Eric has expressed some interest at playing at an event with his father and we will see which dates work best for them. It was agreed that the Auction will then be moved to April 18th date which was to have been the brunch date. The biggest event will be May 16, an evening event or dinner and then there will be a May 17th big church service celebration. We may need to supply volunteer transportation for older members who do not feel able to drive at night.

Minister support for next year: Some interest has been expressed in filling slots with several people, Possibilities include more Sundays by Roger Brewein, maybe Jim McConnell, maybe Meadville Lombard student or students. Kate, Julie, Gary have expressed interest in working on the plan for ministerial support and will come to board with updates next month after speaking with people for a general consensus. Based on the input, next month we will put together proposals to price out for the budget.

Treasurers report: Projection line approx $5000 in red. Email or call Dick with questions. “$ over budget” is column 2 minus column 1. Bob Milne raised $175. ($20 went to snacks) Amy moved to accept, Jim seconded. Accepted.

Idea for fund for greening the building, changing the front to make it more appealing.

Would be good to have a work day soon. Work or pay for “indulgences”.

Child care: Have been several Sunday’s without childcare. Chris will check with Janice regarding Micheal’s interest in continuing in this role.

Answering machine: suggestion that we get voice mail. Chris to check with AT&T about cost of voice mail.

Jim to adjourn, Chris to second, passed.
