Present: Dick Berndt, Emily Hecht, Dave Sarra, Dorothy Long, Janice Zerfas, Amy Eklund, Chris Sirotiak
Minutes from the last meeting were approved, moved by Dick, seconded by Janice
It was determined that we need to get our schedule of major events for next year. We began by identifying major events that need to be put on the calendar:
Bob Milne
Service Auction—October 23 6:00
Cabaret
Chris moved that we flesh it out via email and finalize in September after the school calendars are set up. Amy seconded, passed.
Dorothy downloaded the financial reports after Gretchen left and they were not any different than the previous so she will email them to the board after troubleshooting with Gretchen after her return. She did check on the bank statements and there is plenty in the account right now. She spoke with Don Dewitt about lawn mowing and he is pleased to continue because he has a large mower that does it very quickly. She asked if he would like a letter of donation and he said he did not need one. It was suggested that we put together a gift basket for him as a thank you at the end of the summer. Charles has sent out emails to people who might be involved in the building and grounds committee. He has talked to a few people nearby and there is no support for a sewer system hookup so we can rule that out. Dave has not yet done a web announce of how to find the pledge form on the website. Dorothy did not email out the form because she had spoken to several people that were needing this.
RE report. Dave thought the same six people were interested in teaching but Emily stated that Lisa would not be wanting to teach. Dave will send out an email seeing if anybody else is interested. He will be setting meetings up this week. There will be interviews for the childcare provider. Emily wrote a job description and would like to help with the interviews. It would be good to ask if they have had CPR training or the babysitting class. Janice asked Maddie to ask others she knew to see if anybody else would be interested. The compensation will be $25 for the three hour stretch. We will cover the cost if they have not yet had the babysitting class.
Ministerial search committee will be meeting tomorrow. The response of the survey was tabulated and the most important attributes were identified. The committee on ministry will discuss how well the candidate meets the identified attributes. The job description has been completed. They will then either recommend the candidate to the board or not. Any candidate would need 80% approval of the
congregation or they would not be able to pastor effectively. There needs to be specific contract for ministerial services this year. There has been uncertainty about this over the past year.
Dorothy will check to see if there is something we need to file with the federal government regarding the non-profit status.
Funds for the religious leader for GA for next year—will be discussed at a later date.
Jim will be working on the windows in the RE/childcare rooms soon.
Replacement for Sue Betz for the Endowment Committee. According to the by-laws, Harvey must sit out for at least one year. The remaining two members can appoint a member to serve out the remaining year. Dorothy will email Lisa to ask her to contact Sue to verify her membership status change. We would like an official resignation from the committee before appointing a replacement.
Babysitting: Janice will check on the availability of the babysitting classes. Do we also want in the contract to add the special events? We would pay the same rate for the events. The regular sitters would be offered the opportunity first.
Emily asked about sponsoring a voter’s forum. She will check with Gloria for ideas.
Thank you card for Maddie. She is not leaving until next year but it would be nice to give her a thank you for the last year.
Sunday set up. We need to check with Harvey to see when he needs help. It would be good for the board to be backup for Sunday morning prep.
Next meeting: September 12
Dorothy moved to adjourn. Dick seconded. Unanimous.
